A hidden princess and the boy who saves her life—

Hansel's father finds a child lost and alone during a violent thunderstorm. After bringing her in from the tempest, he and his son are startled to discover that she is Gretel, a princess of Larkein--the enemy kingdom their own king has just destroyed. Fearful for her life, Hansel pleads with his father to save her. He believes they can make Gretel good by teaching her their ways. His kindhearted father agrees, but with great trepidation.

Ten years later, Gretel has grown into a lovely young woman who both infuriates and drives Hansel to distraction while he attempts to not lose his heart to her. When the Larkein witch comes back in the guise of a beautiful woman and marries their father, everything is set into a tailspin. Now they must figure out their new stepmother's plans and prevent her from destroying them all before it is too late.

Hansel and Gretel Faerie Tale Collection Book 5 edition by Jenni James Literature Fiction eBooks

Hansel and Gretel, another obscure, not very well liked fairy tale. However, in this case, there's a good reason for the father to try to strand his children in the woods. Meet Gretel. Found in a storm by Hansel's father. Taken in and raised as a "cousin" to protect Gretel from her true bloodlines. Fast forward a few years. Hansel is fighting feelings for Gretel (who is NOT his sister no matter how much they pretend they're family) and their father marries a terrible beauty who is abusive to Gretel and has an ulterior motive for joining the family. Their father starts to fade and Hansel and Gretel start to see Cora for what she is. Gretel gets taken to a house made completely of sweets! But these sweets have a secret, the more you eat them, the farther you fall under the witch's spell. Cora wants Gretel to forget Hansel and her adopted father and return to her throne as the Queen of the Larkin kingdom! Through manipulation, cunning and pure love, Hansel and Gretel are able to defeat Cora.
This was really nothing like the original story, but so much better in every way possible. Another home run for Jenni James! I also recommend the story about their son, Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk.

Hansel and Gretel Faerie Tale Collection Book 5 edition by Jenni James Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This was a great rendition of the Hansel and Gretel story. I love fairy tale and the new twist to this story was really refreshing! Jenni James is a wonderful new author and will be on my favorites list from now on.
I loved the classic version of Hansel and Gretel but this is even better. This is the story of a boy who's father saved a Larkein princess named Gretel. They grew up together like brothers and sisters. When Adale (Hansel's father) brought home a woman everything changed. Her name was Cora. She turned out to be evil. I don't want to ruin the story for you so, I just recommend you read this book. It does have a few words spelled wrong, otherwise it is a wonderful book and I think you should read it.
Okay, so I really love Jenni James, but I found the witch magic near the cottage just a bit weird. However, thinking back on the origional faerie tale, I realized that there really isn't a lot you can do with a witch and an edible house. I really appreciate the imagination of James in making these faerie tales gain new life.
Easy reads, I can zip through three of her books on a weekend when I'm on my own. They are light, with a twist, just enough to keep you going. I read her books, then dive into a cozy murder mystery, and back to my quasi fairy tale world for the happy ending we all dream of )
This was a cute retelling of Hansel and Gretel with some twists. There is Hansel and Gretel, of course, but they are not actually related, and there is the creepy witch that sneeks her way into their lives by marrying Hansel's father and putting an enchantment on him. And then of course what would the story be without the cottage in the woods made of candy. Candy that makes you forget everything except for the fact that you want more candy;) This short story had adventure, magic, and a little sweet romance. I look forward to reading more of Jenni James' Faerie Tale Collection series.
a new take on Hansel and Gretel. This was an enjoyable read, but seemed to leave a lot of questions unanswered and the romance was a bit weird when the character's ages was taken into account.
Did not like this book. (too tragic). Sleeping Beauty too tragic as well. I like most of Jenni James others and absolutely Love her Regency books! Loved Loved "Lord Romney's Exquisite Widow" and "Lord Atten Meets His Match" So I keep checking to see if she has written more like them.
